If there is a vowel before the ending ido, we have to add an accent on the i of the ending. This shows us that each vowel is spoken separately (i.e. not a diphthong). Example:
leer – leído
traer – traído

•  Lo tiraron porque alguien lo había roto.
•  Vinieron cuando yo ya había vuelto.
• Me perdonaste porque te había dicho la verdad.(I told you the truth then you forgave me)
• Resultó que no lo había hecho.
• Me preguntasteis por qué no se lo había dicho.  (You asked me why hadn't I told him that.)
•  Avisaste que habías conocido una chica muy guapa. (You admitted you had met a very pretty girl)
• Admitió que se habías perdido. (You admitted you had lost)

1. Usage (main past tenese)

- short, one-time actions

Francisco me besó.
Recibí una carta de mi hermana.
Jimena abrió la puerta y vio una luz.(finished action after another)
De repente escuchó la voz de Manuel. (sudden, finished action)

- actions in the past with dates (closed past)

Yo caminé por esa calle ayer.
El año pasado llegó una chica nueva a clase.
En este año visitamos tres veces la fábrica.

La organización imprimió las invitaciones para el evento.

- short action interupting long action
- with verbs expressing opinions

Creo que fue un buen año.

2. Formation

"We" have the same form in preterito indefinido as in presente.

3. Exceptions

• -ir for verbs changing their infix in present tense, the change also happens in the 3rd person:
• e->i
• e-> ie  (here only e->i)
• o->ue (here o->u)

  The accept falls on the second to the last syllable (púde, púdo) which is not marked as opposed to regular form where accent falls on the last syllable (trabajé, trabajó)
